LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Two young teams squared off Monday night in Rupp Arena in Lexington as the Kentucky Wildcats hosted the Morehead State Eagles in the ‘Kentucky Cares Classic.’
The game was not televised with proceeds going to disaster relief. After the game, UK Head Coach John Calipari said the event raised an estimated $500,000.
The attendance was 14,138, according to UK Athletics.
The Eagles played the Wildcats tough, but were plagued by turnovers. Morehead State had 26 turnovers to Kentucky’s eleven.
UK led at the half 39-28.
The Eagles hit 8 of their first 14 shots in the second half, cutting the UK lead to 54-51.
The tight game seemed to serve as the wake-up call to John Calipari’s young Cats, who gradually pulled away for a 92-67 victory.
Morehead State out rebounded Kentucky 30-to-25.
Kentucky was led in scoring by Hamidou Diallo with 23. Quade Green finished with 20. Alexander Gilgeous had 17 and Kevin Knox had 16 as four Cats finished in double figures.
Morehead State was led in scoring by Lamontray Harris with 15. The only other Eagle in double figures was Jordan Walker with 13.
