KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – New details have been released the possible identification of red headed, Knox County Jane Doe, according to Kentucky State Police.
State police say in April of 1985 the body of a woman was found in a rural dumpsite along U.S. 25 in Knox County.
Her body had been placed in an old refrigerator and the autopsy revealed she had been murdered, according to police.
KSP says the woman was allegedly trying to get a ride to North Carolina from a truck stop in Corbin.
Now, according to KSP, detectives have been in contact with people from North Carolina who believe the unidentified woman may be their mother, who they say went missing over 30 years ago.
According to KSP, DNA samples from possible family members may be collected as early as next week.
They explain there is DNA on file in the case.
KSP says the DNA comparison will take several months to complete.
