LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Dozens of people gathered at Keeneland today to honor the life of renowned horse owner Penny Chenery.
Chenery, best known for owning triple crown champion Secretariat died last month at the age of 95.
Family, friends and simply fans of horse racing came together Monday afternoon to remember and honor the life of Penny Chenery the outspoken and beloved owner of 1973 Triple Crown Champion Secretariat.
Chenery credited by many as a trailblazer for women in horse racing had a long storied career as a thoroughbred breeder and owner.
Those who knew Chenery the best shared their favorite memories of the woman best known for her sharp wit and love for the sport.
Chenery is survived by her four children, two of which spoke at the memorial and shared their gratitude for all of Chenery’s fans and the industry they grew up in.
To keep her legacy alive the newly created Penny Chenery Memorial Fund will now raise money for causes that were close to the groundbreaking horse owner’s heart.
