MOUNT VERNON, Ky. (WTVQ) – State Police say a Clay County man died Monday morning in a crash on I-75 in Rockcastle County. It was one of two early morning crashes on northbound I-75 in the area that snarled traffic.
Investigators say 46-year old Mark Murphy, of Manchester, was driving north when his 2016 Ford F-250 pickup truck dropped off the right shoulder of the road near mile marker 66 and went over an embankment.
Murphy was rushed to Saint Joseph Berea Hospital where he died, according to KSP.
The accident happened shortly after 9:00 a.m.
It led to a temporary shutdown through that stretch of I-75, which led to a traffic backup. All lanes were reopened by early afternoon, according to State Police.
The accident is under investigation.
In a separate accident earlier in the morning, State Police say a semi flipped on northbound I-75 in Madison County near the Fayette County line. Investigators say the driver wasn’t hurt. The accident is under investigation, but wet roads may have been a factor, according to authorities.
The accident led to a temporary closing of that stretch of the interstate, which resulted in a traffic backup. All lanes were reopened by late morning, according to KSP.
