LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The City of Lexington has a new Junior Fire Chief.
10-year old Katie Bowden, a fifth grade student at Meadowthorpe Elementary School, was given the honorary title at an official ceremony Monday morning.
Bowden was also presented with an official badge to accompany her specially-sized Lexington Fire Department uniform.
She will serve as a dignitary during the upcoming year, which will include local TV appearances, tours of businesses and landmarks across Fayette County during Fire Prevention Week.
Fire Chief Kristin Chilton was on hand for the ceremony.
The Junior Fire Chief title is given out each year to a Fayette County fifth grader.
