LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Keeneland’s fall meet starts Friday, but people are already working hard behind-the-scenes to make sure that everything is ready for opening day.
All around Keeneland, people are doing their part to prepare for Friday’s crowd, including Carol Gilbert and Toni Corma. They’re sisters who say they’ve worked in Guest Services during 54 meets.
The two organize the Green Coats, the group that helps guests all around the grounds. Gilbert says it’s a big job because they’re often the first impression guests get when visiting.
“You don’t have to look for a greencoat if you need help,” said Gilbert. “They’re there… they’re everywhere.”
Gilbert urges people to come to the meet for the experience of being at the track.
“You can watch a race on TV and that’s okay, but when you’re watching them on this track, coming down this stretch right here, there’s nothing more beautiful,” said Gilbert.
People say every seat at Keeneland has been reserved for Friday and Saturday, but they say if you come early enough, you might be able to get standing room right next to the track.
