LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- The Fayette County Coroner says the victim of this weekend’s shooting was a local teenager, 16-year-old Floyd Dunn III.
Sharon Reed says she was inside her home when she heard gunshots at the intersection of Sixth and Chestnut just after 11 Saturday night.
“I wasn’t sure if it was where you put fire crackers in a line. You know we used to do that as kids, but I called it in and it wasn’t too much later, five minutes later I heard sirens,” said Reed.
Reed says it wasn’t until the next day she learned Dunn, a sophomore at Lexington’s Martin Luther King Junior Academy, was shot and killed.
She says it’s sad to see young people affected by such violence and blames the lack of youth centers in the area for the spike in crime.
“The young people that are getting into all these things, doing all these things are just the age that would have been served at that time,” said Reed.
Reed says the neighborhood has come together to try and bring more youth programs to the area but is in need of more support.
“We very much appreciate input of ideas especially from people that grew up here,” said Reed.
Police say they are continuing to investigate what lead up to this deadly shooting and are asking anyone with information to call the Lexington Police Department.
