Firefighters go school shopping with kids

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- People shopping in Hamburg this weekend may have seen several fire engines outside Meijer, but don’t worry, there wasn’t a fire.

Instead, the firefighters were taking kids shopping for school clothes.

It’s the annual shop with firefighters day.

School teachers  identify children ages 12 and under that come from families that need a little extra help.

When the child comes to Meijer, they grab a cookie, a cart, and a firefighter and go shopping for their favorite clothes and shoes.

The fire department donates one hundred dollars to each kid.

Firefighters say the community does so much for them and this is just one way of giving back.
