MOUNT VERNON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A diesel fuel spill from a truck accident closed all northbound lanes of I-75 in Rockcastle County around 6:00 p.m. Monday, according to State Police.
The accident happened around mile marker 54 where an estimated 150-gallons of diesel fuel spilled from shoulder-to-shoulder across I-75, into the ground on both sides. Investigators say some vehicles drove through the diesel fuel and spread it more than a mile down the interstate, which led to a more lengthy cleanup, according to KSP.
The closure led to a big traffic backup, according to investigators.
By 10:30 p.m., one northbound lane had reopened, but traffic was still being detoured, according to State Police.
Traffic was detoured onto US 25 at Exit 49 and then back onto the interstate at Exit 59, according to KSP.
It was unclear when all northbound lanes would reopen.
