LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Lexington community is devastated because a six-year-old is dead after accidentally drowning in a swimming pool.
The coroner pronounced 6-year-old Michael Stewart dead Saturday night.
He drowned off South Point Drive at the Pinnacle Recreation Center right across the street from Veterans Park.
6-year-old Michael Stewart was pulled from the neighborhood pool and was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
On a hot summer day, Pinnacle Recreation Center is normally filled with families enjoying the cool water, but the pool remained quiet. posted on the door, a sign that says “pool closed”.
Neighbors say they were too upset to go on camera. They say it’s a tragic event as the whole community is mourning a sweet soul.
The vivacious 1-st grader loved going to the pool, he also loved to play t-ball as well.
Veterans Park Elementary School says it will have grief counselors on hand Monday for students and teachers.
Police say the cause of the drowning is under investigation, but at this time it appears to be accidental.
