LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – According to the Fayette County Coroner, a man has died after being hit by a police cruiser in Lexington.
The accident happened happened just before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The Lexington Police Department says an officer was traveling down Euclid Avenue and Woodland Avenue when a man walked into the street.
Police say the man was not in a crosswalk and the officer did not see him.
The man, who the coroner said was 50-years-old, was rushed to the University of Kentucky hospital with life-threatening injuries.
His name has not been released.
Police say the officer was responding to a request from another officer for assistance on a traffic stop.
The officer’s body-worn camera was activated during this incident, according to authorities.
Officials say as the investigation continues, the officer will be administratively reassigned and the department’s Public Integrity Unit will also conduct an internal review.
Investigators from the department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit are actively gathering information and reviewing all factors related to this incident.
