NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ)- The 14th Annual Freedom Fest took place Saturday in Nicholasville, raising money to honor veterans.

The festival raised over $3,000 to go towards supporting troops and their families.

This year, part of that money will be donated to a mother so that she can attend her daughter’s basic training graduation at Fort Jackson in South Carolina.

Organizers say this event is about reminding people about the sacrifices veterans make.

Missi Hurley said, “So many times, veterans are unrecognized for the sacrifices they make in this country. You don’t know how many times veterans come back from war and they have PTSD or they have some kind of disability they’ve gained while in service.”

Organizers of Freedom Fest say they honor service members throughout the year with several other ceremonies.
