LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lexington Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that led to the fraudulent use of the victim’s debit card.
Around 11:00 p.m. Thursday, May 4, officers went to the parking lot of The Lex Apartments on South Broadway on a report of a robbery. When police arrived, the victim told them he was walking back to his apartment when an unknown man got out of an older white car and confronted him with a handgun.
The man demanded that the victim empty his pockets, and ended up taking the victm’s wallet and phone. The suspect was described as possibly in his mid-twenties, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a medium build and a scruffy beard.
Within minutes of the robbery, police say the victim’s debit card was used at two gas stations and a Walmart store. Investigators have released surveillance video from one of gas stations, in which two unknown men are seen buying beer and other items with the victim’s debit card.
