LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)-
Family and friends of a Lexington man shot and killed last year hosted a celebration in his honor tonight in Lexington’s Winburn neighborhood.
Close family and friends came together at Martin Luther King Park Friday night to celebrate what would have been James Blair’s 28th birthday.
“You know James was loved by everybody you know we all love him and miss him,” said Doreene Blair, James Blair’s mother.
Blair was shot and killed in a Chase Bank parking lot in downtown Lexington last October.
“It’s been difficult every day since it happened. It’s difficult like to know that I can’t call him and he don’t pop up at my house and I don’t hear him saying cuz cuz, little big cuz,” said Karlisha Ballard, Blair’s cousin.
No one was ever charged for Blair’s murder but many believe the main suspect was 27-year-old Mark Boguszewski of Louisville, who was shot and killed himself in Nicholasville last Friday.
“I feel bad about their situation too because at the end of the day they both was fathers. They both got mothers. They both got sisters. They both got family,” said Ballard.
The Blair family says their goal is to end all this violence and are now looking for news ways to do just that.
“Somehow or another if we can make a difference by talking to them mentoring, you know Steve can mentor them or I can and the other ladies just to let them know that crime it doesn’t pay,” said Blair.
James’s mother says she just wants his life to be remembered and an inspiration for others to try and make our community a little safer.
“He’s just that good guy. You know, good guy. We love him and like I said we just want to make a difference,” said Blair
