LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Catholic Action Center has been in its new building for about three weeks and workers say it is already helped hundreds of people everyday.
All services that the Catholic Action Center provides are now in one place on Industry Road.
“We’re here to make this a stepping stone for people to get on their feet,” said Ginny Ramsey with the Catholic Action Center. “But the first thing is to be treated with respect, the first thing is to understand that they count.”
In the past 20 days it has served 5,800 meals and 2,700 people have slept in the new facility. More people want to sleep at the new building than there is space.
The new building is about a mile from downtown Lexington. The Catholic Action Center is working with the city to arrange free bus rides from downtown to the center. Leaders hope to have the program running in the next few weeks.
A ribbon cutting for the new building will be held Wednesday, May 24th.
