LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – An Olympic medalist spent a little time with Fayette County Public School students on Monday.
Olympic diving medalist Micki King joined students from Lexington Traditional Magnet School for a walk as part of the World Fit Program.
The program is designed to get kids to put down their electronics, head outside and get moving.
Each year, the Walk begins on the Monday following Spring break and continues for the following six weeks. Daily, students who participate in the World Fit Walk will log their miles via the website, www.worldfit.org. The miles will be totaled for each student daily and automatically when entered throughout the Walk. Each student will have the opportunity to compare his or her miles with other students and schools in their region.
King is the 1972 Springboard Diving Olympic Gold Medalist. King, a retired US Air Force Colonel, served 26 years on active duty. Her second career was Assistant Athletic at the University of Kentucky where she served 14 years.
