LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Keeneland closed out what they are calling a successful 20-17 spring meet Friday.
Track officials report that 252,247 people attended this year in over 15 days of racing.
That number is compared to last year’s 262,197 attendance level; however, that was over a 16 day spread due to Keeneland being closed Easter Sunday this year.
They say the average daily attendance this year, was slightly above that in 2016, which they attribute to great weather, new food offerings, one of a kind events, and of course exceptional racing.
Some of those special events over the weeks included, the popular College Scholarship Day, where thousands of students from colleges and universities across the state took part in on opening day, fans coming in full force on Makers Mark Day to have their commemorative bottles signed by the 1996 National Championship UK men’s basketball team, and Military Day where active and veteran military members and their families were honored.
Keeneland is proud to have raised the average daily purses from the previous year, making them rank among the highest in the country, attracting thoroughbred racing’s human and horse stars.
