School cancelled in Knox County Tuesday over threat

KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – School in Knox County is cancelled Tuesday after someone called in a threat to an outside police agency.

In a statement on its website, Knox County Public Schools says the Knox County Sheriff received a call from a law enforcement agency outside of Kentucky Monday night, saying a threat was made against Knox County Public Schools in Kentucky.

The statement says no one particular school in Knox County was mentioned and the address provided to law enforcement was an invalid address, leading them to believe the threat was false.

The district states: “To ensure that our families receive accurate information and to help us discourage further rumors and threats, the decision was made to cancel school for Tuesday, April 18, 2017.”

The district says Barbourville Independent Schools are also cancelled because of the threat.
