LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) -The Fayette County Coroner says a man who was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after being hit by a car Sunday night has died.
The coroner says the victim was 53-year-old Danny Alan Newport.
Newport was hit at around 8:30 p.m., as he was crossing Nicholasville Road on foot.
He was taken to UK Hospital, and died just before 9:30 p.m.
The coroner’s office is now seeking next-of-kin for Newport. Anyone with information is asked to call (859) 455-5700.
Police say the driver of the vehicle who hit Newport flagged them down at a gas station and told them he thought he had hit someone.
Officers say Newport was walking in an area of the road where there is no crosswalk, and say dark and rainy conditions may have contributed to the driver not seeing the pedestrian.
Police say it is unlikely charges will be pressed.

A pedestrian is rushed to the hospital in critical condition after being hit by a car in Lexington Sunday night.
Police say a man flagged down an officer at a gas station on Nicholasville Road at around 8:30 p.m. saying he thought he hit someone.
The officer and the driver went up to Nicholasville Road and Southland Drive and found a man lying on the sidewalk.
Police say the man had a faint pulse and was unresponsive when he was taken to the University of Kentucky hospital.
They say it was rainy, the road was dark and there was no crosswalk where the pedestrian was hit.
