GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ)- A Georgetown church is trying to find innovative new ways to end Kentucky’s opioid epidemic.
The program called “Celebrate Recovery” is being launched by Victory Life Church and members say the program looks to help people with all types of addictions and anxieties.
The program is a nationwide Christian-based 12 step program where participants meet weekly to overcome their addictions.
Victory Life Church says they decided to launch the program after seeing the recent increase in opioid addiction in the area.
“I just felt like it was an avenue that we would be able to reach out to our community and help them and have like I said another safe place for them to come and to be able to talk about it and encourage them and pray for them and help them get a sponsor and an accountability buddy to help them stay on the right path,” said Connie Tackett, core leader of Celebrate Recovery.
“I think this is such a step forward for Georgetown and Scott county, another tool for our community to use to celebrate recovery and celebrate a positive effort to address some of these very destructive problems that we face,” said Tom Prather, mayor of Georgetown.
The program officially begins next Tuesday at 6;30 p.m. at Victory Life Church.
