8th grade spelling wiz Joey Ilagan, from Tates Creek Middle School, is preparing for a trip to the 90th Scripps National Spelling Bee! He and his father, Jose, stop by the studio to talk with Katie Solove about how he’s preparing to represent Kentucky.
The Scripps National Spelling Bee is the nation’s oldest and most iconic spelling competition. The competition is open to all students ages 15 and under. The spelling competition starts in classrooms and progresses through schools, regionals, and finally the national competition. Hundreds of children from around the country participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee competition.
