LPD: Woman punched during robbery in parking lot


LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A woman was injured in a violent robbery in a Walmart parking lot on Wednesday.

Police say the woman walked out of the Walmart on Nicholasville Road and got to her car when two men came up behind her, grabbed her and punched her in the face.

They say the suspects took her bags, jumped into a gray Dodge Charger and took off. A witness at the scene followed the car and got a license plate number.

The woman was taken to the hospital to be treated for a cut above her eye.

Police say the suspects’ car was spotted at a Marathon gas station on New Circle Road and Russell Cave Road at around 2 a.m. They say officers arrested 23-year-old Derrick Green and charged him with robbery. The other ran off and they are still searching for him.

Police say they believe the two were also involved in another robbery at the Speedway on Elkhorn Drive at around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Green is now in the Fayette County Detention Center.
