LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – KentuckyOne Health will soon no longer run the day-to-day operations of the University of Louisville Hospital and the James Graham Brown Cancer Center, ending what was supposed to be a decades-long arrangement after four years.
News outlets report that the school’s board of trustees approved an agreement whereby University Medical Center will resume management of the hospital and cancer center on July 1.
University officials announced the change during a news conference after the vote Tuesday.
KentuckyOne has operated U of L Hospital since 2013, following an agreement that was supposed to stabilize the faltering teaching hospital’s finances. Since then, KentuckyOne has had its own financial troubles and laid off 500 employees statewide in 2014.
A state inspection concluded in July that nursing deficiencies endangered three patients at the hospital.
