LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – After a year in office, Gov. Matt Bevin has filled the full-time job of overseeing the agency tasked with creating jobs in Kentucky.
Bevin on Wednesday announced Terry R. Gill Jr.’s hiring as secretary of the Cabinet for Economic Development.
Gill’s appointment comes as Bevin and other Republicans prepare a legislative agenda expected to focus on economic growth and job creation. The GOP consolidated power in state government by seizing control of the state House in last month’s election.
The Republican agenda includes right-to-work legislation making it illegal for companies to force employees to join labor unions.
Bevin’s to-do list includes overhauling the state’s tax code.
Bevin says Gill has “a passion for economic development.” In a prior job, Gill helped lead efforts to increase the number of companies headquartered in Louisville.
