HARLAN, Ky. (AP) – Authorities say an eastern Kentucky woman has been charged with murder in the death of her infant son.
Kentucky State Police said Tuesday that the preliminary investigation indicates the 23-year-old Harlan County woman, Sierra Foster, was under the influence of drugs and had not cared for the 2-month-old child for at least 12 hours.
Media reports say sheriff’s deputies went with social workers to check on the child’s welfare and found the baby dead in her apartment.
The cause of the infant’s death won’t be known until an autopsy scheduled for Wednesday is performed.
Trooper Shane Jacobs, a state police spokesman, says there were no obvious signs of trauma to the child.
Police say other charges against Foster include first-degree criminal abuse and tampering with physical evidence.
