PARIS, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Central Kentucky family is thankful they made it out of East Tennessee during the wildfires.
The Puryears were vacationing in Pigeon Forge, about seven miles from the worst of the wildfires in Gatlinburg. They were never forced to evacuate but told it would be a good idea.
“Monday night when we heard the sirens go off for like four or five hours, for a good time, we all kind of packed up or stuff just in case,” said Jamiee Puryear.
Seeing the glow of the fire on the nearby mountain made them nervous. The Puryears cut their vacation short and came home Wednesday.
The family is heartbroken seeing what’s left of Gatlinburg but say they will be back to the area they love and are already planning another vacation there this spring.
