LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington Police say a man was hit and killed Thursday night while trying to cross Winchester Road near Elkhorn Road.
Investigators say an SUV was inbound on Winchester Road when the man walked out in front of the vehicle.
Police say the man was wearing dark clothing and was not in the crosswalk.
Investigators say the driver of the SUV cooperated fully with police.
Police say an ambulance crew from Perry County happened to be stopped at a light near the collision scene and rushed to help the victim until Lexington paramedics arrived.
The man was rushed to UK Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
His name was not immediately released.
The Lexington Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) was called-in to investigate the accident.
This is the city’s 9th pedestrian death this year, making it the second deadliest for pedestrians in Lexington in the last two decades, according to Lexington Police statistics.
In 2008, 10 pedestrians were hit and killed in Lexington.
By comparison, in 1996, there were two pedestrian deaths in the city.
