UPDATE: Man charged in Trinity Gay’s death waives case to grand jury

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) – One of four people charged in connection with the shooting death of Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay’s 15-year-old daughter has allowed his case to be moved to a grand jury for review.

Multiple news outlets report 21-year-old Dvonta Middlebrooks waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday and let the grand jury consider the charges.

Middlebrooks is charged with wanton endangerment in the death of Trinity Gay, who was shot Oct. 16 outside a Lexington restaurant after witnesses told police that gunfire was exchanged between two vehicles. Police say Trinity Gay wasn’t in either car involved in the shooting.

Thirty-eight-year-old Chazerae Taylor; his 19-year-old son, D’Markeo Taylor; and 20-year-old Lamonte A. Williams also face the same charge.

Middlebrooks also is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.

Suspects in Trinity Gay shooting appear in court

The four suspects accused in a shooting on October 16th that killed 15-year-old Trinity Gay appeared in a Lexington courtroom Tuesday morning.

3 of the 4 suspects, Lamonte Williams, Chazerae Taylor, and D’Markeo Taylor waived their preliminary hearings, meaning their case will go to the Grand Jury.

Dvonta Middlebrooks’ preliminary hearing was rescheduled for November 15th.  Currently, he is the only suspect in the case who remains in jail.

A fourth arrest has been made in connection to a shooting at the Cook Out restaurant on South Broadway early Sunday morning that killed Trinity Gay.

Police in Lexington say that 20-year-old Lamonte A. Williams has been charged with wanton endangerment.

Three other men, Dvonta Middlebrooks, along with father and son Chazerae and D’Markeo Taylor, have been charged in the case.

Officers say, at about 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, the 4 men were involved in a gunfire exchange between two vehicles in the parking lot of the restaurant.  One of the shots hit 15-year-old Trinity Gay, who later died of her injuries.

Chazerae and D’Markeo Taylor were released from jail Wednesday after posting bond.  Middlebrooks remains in the Fayette County Detention Center.

Detectives say the investigation into the shooting remains active, as evidence and testimonies continue to be collected.

Two men accused in the shooting death of Trinity Gay have been released from jail.

38-year-old Chazerae Taylor and 19-year old D’Markeo Taylor, a father and son charged with wanton endangerment in the case, left the jail Wednesday after posting a $5,000 bond.

A third man charged in the shooting, Dvonta Middlebrooks remains at the Fayette County Detention Center.
