When deputies arrived, they say they found 48-year-old Michael Johnson in the bedroom with the victim, who had been shot five times.

The victim told deputies that she and Johnson had been fighting earlier in the day, and that Johnson had backed her into a corner in the bedroom and shot her.  A pistol was recovered at the scene.

Deputies say the woman and a five-year-old child were sleeping in the room before Johnson entered.

The woman was taken to UK Hospital for treatment of injuries.

Johnson was charged with attempted murder and wanton endangerment.

He was taken to the Laurel County Detention Center.
