Kagan: Supreme Court gender diversity positive sign to youth

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan says gender diversity on the nation’s highest court sends a positive message to girls and boys.

Kagan said Monday that youngsters visiting the court hear “women’s voices coming from all over the place” during the court’s oral arguments.
Commenting on herself and Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia Sotomayor, Kagan said: “None of us are shrinking violets. We all ask questions, often.”

Kagan, however, downplayed the role of gender when it comes to deciding cases.

She made the comments during an appearance at the University of Louisville.
