EKU student indicted on manslaughter charges in deadly May car crash


RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – A bench warrant has been issued for the arrest of Abigail Melton in connection to a traffic collision that killed two people back in May of 2015, according to the Circuit Clerk Office.

The accident happened on May 12th on Jack’s Creek Road. Alyssa Moorman was killed in the crash and Cody Garcia, 23, died days later. Melton, Moorman and Garcia were all students at Eastern Kentucky University. Investigators say three other people were also hurt but survived.

According to court paperwork, Melton’s blood alcohol level was 0.102 when she was driving. The legal limit is 0.08.

Melton was indicted on two charges of manslaughter in the second degree and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
