LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Laurel Co. Sheriff says a man is behind bars after driving recklessly to get away from deputies, and eventually taking off on foot – losing his shoes in the process.
According to the sheriff, deputies tried to stop 32-year-old Jeremy Bowling on KY 490 at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening. Instead of stopping, however, deputies say Bowling took off and began passing vehicles in the oncoming lane. According to deputies, Bowling nearly hit four cars while driving away, and then continued swerving back and forth in the roadway.
As Bowling approached a sharp right-hand curve near East Bernstadt, deputies say he lost control of his Ford Explorer and slid into a ditch, eventually coming to a stop partially blocking the northbound lane of the road. Investigators say during that time, Bowling jumped out of the truck while it was still moving, and literally leaped out of his shoes.
Bowling ran off barefoot, deputies say, down a set of railroad tracks. Deputies were able to catch up to Bowling who, though he reportedly resisted arrest, was taken into custody.
Bowling has been charged with reckless driving, fleeing or evading police, DUI, wanton endangerment, and resisting arrest, along with other charges.
He was taken to the Laurel County Detention Center.
