DANVILLE, Ky. (AP) – Health officials in Boyle County can now move forward with a plan to create a needle exchange program after receiving approval from the county fiscal court.
The Advocate-Messenger reports (http://bit.ly/2d8jpfq) that Boyle County Fiscal Court voted Tuesday to authorize the program, which will allow drug users to exchange used syringes for clean ones with the goals of stopping the spread of disease and helping drug users find rehabilitation options.
It has also been approved by the Danville City Commission.
The exchange is slated to begin in November and to be held on Friday afternoons at the health department.
The Boyle County Agency for Substance Abuse Policy and the health department are waiting to hear back on a grant that would help fund the program.
