LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) – The University of Kentucky’s Senate Council has voted against a proposed free enterprise center funded by the Charles Koch Foundation and pizza magnate John Schnatter.
The Lexington Herald-Leader (http://bit.ly/2djXrDZ ) reports that the matter will still move to the full university senate despite the council’s 4-3 vote against it.
The gift from the Charles Koch Foundation and Schnatter includes $10 million for a free enterprise institute in the Gatton College of Business and Economics and $2 million toward the $65 million Gatton expansion and renovation.
The council approved the academic part of the program, but not its academic structure.
Council members said they were concerned that the agreement allowed donors to take back the money with 30 days’ notice. They also expressed concern about whether donors would be able to exert influence over the programming.
