LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – University of Louisville trustees are threatening to sue the school’s foundation for what they see as a lack of accountability in the university’s fundraising arm.

The trustees approved a resolution Friday clearing the way for the potential lawsuit if the foundation fails to meet several conditions. The trustees voted after a lengthy closed-door session on campus.

Trustees chairman Larry Benz says dozens of donors are vowing to cut off contributions until the school’s foundation operates with greater transparency.

The resolution was opposed by trustee Ron Butt. He says other options are available to iron out the issues without resorting to a threatened lawsuit.

The action came during the second meeting for the board since it was restored by a judge amid a dispute over whether Gov. Matt Bevin has the authority to replace it.
