HENDERSON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The national campaign, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, runs through Labor Day weekend with the goal of reducing deaths and injuries caused by motorists driving impaired, either by alcohol or drugs.
Statewide, during the 2015 Labor Day holiday, there were seven fatal collisions resulting in the deaths of ten people on Kentucky roadways. Four were either alcohol and/or drug-related.
The 2016 Labor Day holiday enforcement period begins at 6:00 p.m., Friday, September 2 and continues through Monday, September 5 at 11:59 p.m.
In addition to statewide DUI enforcement, KSP will conduct statewide traffic safety checkpoints in an effort to enforce all traffic laws of the Commonwealth. Special attention will be paid to occupant protection (seatbelt/child restraint usage), vehicle safety, insurance compliance and registration violations.
KSP will be partnering with local law enforcement agencies to conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 16 District. The KSP utilizes traffic safety checkpoints to promote safety for motorists and to provide a deterrent for those who violate laws contained in the Kentucky Revised Statutes.
