ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) – A judge has found a central Minnesota woman incompetent to stand trial on charges she killed her father before fleeing to Kentucky.
Earlier the Stearns County judge had ordered a mental competency examination for 39-year-old Lisa Kearney of St. Cloud. The St. Cloud Times (http://on.sctimes.com/2ccrGjF ) reports that exam led to Kearney being committed as mentally ill.
Kearney is charged with second-degree murder in the bludgeoning death of 66-year-old Jeffrey Schilling. His body was found Jan. 4 inside the home he shared with Kearney.
A criminal complaint says Schilling died of head injuries, apparently inflicted with an ax-like tool found nearby.
Kearney was arrested in Louisville, Kentucky, on Jan. 6 and later returned to Minnesota. The criminal case against her is on hold until she is restored to competency.
