LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The father of a seven-week old girl was arrested at St. Joseph Hospital London Tuesday afternoon after the baby was brought in with severe injuries, according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators say 34-year old Gary Nicely, of London, struggled with deputies during his arrest.
Deputies say they were contacted by hospital personnel after the baby girl was brought in with a severe head injury. She was transferred to UK Hospital in Lexington where she was listed in critical condition, according to investigators.
Deputies say Nicely was caring for the baby and had no explanation as to how the child suffered the injury. Investigators say the child’s mother had taken another child to school and when she returned home on Philpot Road, she found the baby unresponsive.
Investigators say two other children were in the home at the time, ages 4 and seven weeks.
Deputies say Nicely was charged with Assault 1st Degree, Domestic Violence; Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree; Resisting Arrest; Disorderly Conduct 2nd Degree; and Menacing.
Nicely was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
