LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Whitaker Bank Ballpark is ready for some softball.
The home of the Lexington Legends is set up for the inaugural Coach Cal Celebrity Softball Classic. University of Kentucky men’s basketball coach John Calipari has joined with former UK star Karl-Anthony Towns to assemble a group of sports celebrities for the game Sunday, August 28 at 6 p.m. All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross for flood relief in Louisiana, Calipari announced Thursday.
“We’re excited about having the Coach Cal Celebrity Softball Classic at Whitaker Bank Ballpark, and about the news that the proceeds will go to flood relief in Louisiana,” said Legends President/CEO Andy Shea. “Sunday will be a great day of fun at the ballpark for a great cause.”
Calipari will serve as the event host, and Towns is the event captain.
Among the many sports celebrities participating are:
- Former Wildcat basketball stars Eric Bledsoe, Keith Bogans, Rex Chapman, Kyle Macy, Alex Poythress, Nerlens Noel and more;
- Former UK football stars Tim Couch, Keenan Burton and Jared Lorenzen;
- Former major league baseball players Austin Kearns and Tom Browning;
- NFL Hall of Fame member Cris Carter.
Gates will open at 4:30 p.m. Sunday. A home run derby is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
