PHILPOT, Ky. (WTVQ) – State Police say a driver running from Troopers reached speeds in excess of 140 mph in the Philpot area on Sunday. Investigators say the driver, Gregory Mayton, eventually gave up and stopped his vehicle and was arrested without incident.
State Police say it all began when a Trooper observed Mayton driving 84 mph in a 55 mph zone on US 60. The Trooper says when he turned on his lights and siren, Mayton turned off his headlights and took off at a high rate of speed.
Investigators say Mayton reached speeds in excess of 120 mph on KY 54 and ran through five traffic lights, three of which were red. They say he was also passing cars in the oncoming lane without any headlights on.
State Police say once Mayton left the city limits, his speed topped 140 mph. Investigators say when the Trooper eventually began to catch up to Mayton’s vehicle in the Philpot area, Mayton stopped and gave himself up.
He was charged with a number of offenses and lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center.
