RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ)- A group in Richmond gathered in front of city hall city Tuesday night to push for a pay raise for police officers.
The “Ellis Coaltion” is a task force named for slain Richmond Police Officer Daniel Ellis. The group supports a proposed wage scale that it says has been presented to city commissioners.
Part of an online petition says, “The Richmond Police Department is severely understaffed, which is dangerous for officers as well as the citizens they protect. A new pay scale was developed in order to help retain officers, who are leaving in droves for higher paying departments.”
Some wives of Richmond police officers and concerned citizens were among those who rallied outside city hall. The coalition says it plans to present the petition to the city in the near future.
