GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farm in Scott County has a new facility.
The new barn was built thanks to the community and a $50 thousand donation from the horse sales company Fasig Tipton.
It will be used as a medical facility for horses at Old Friends.
Old Friends founder, Michael Blowen, says the fire department believes January’s barn fire started because rodents chewed some exposed wire. Blowen says this new barn is nearly fireproof and built much safer than the original.
“It was a reminder that this is all about the horses and all the physical parts that are going into it so these horses have a safe and dignified retirement,” said Blowen.
