LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The funeral for Lexington firefighter Matt Logsdon is being held today in Louisville.
Logsdon died last Wednesday after battling cancer.
The funeral begins at 1:00 p.m. at Northeast Christian Church on Old Brownsboro Road.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Logsdon was born in Owensboro, and was a 10-year veteran with the Lexington Fire Department. He was a volunteer Pee Wee football coach, volunteered at an elementary school, was a proud Kentucky Colonel and an avid Kentucky Wildcats fan. He volunteered in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
He played a key role in getting legislation passed in the most recent General Assembly session that classifies a firefighter who dies of certain forms of cancer as an in the line of duty death, which makes the firefighter’s family eligible for a lump sum death benefit.
Matt Logsdon leaves behind a wife and three children.
