WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Whitley Co. Sheriff says a man has been cited after being hit by a train between the Sandy Flats and Saxton communities.
The Sheriff says deputies were notified of the accident around 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Investigators say 51-year-old Stephen C. Lawson was walking along the railroad tracks when the train came, and didn’t move far enough away to avoid being hit.
Lawson was found over a 60-foot-tall embankment, deputies say, and was found wearing only his socks.
Lawson was taken to the Jellico Community Hospital, where deputies cited him for criminal trespassing and public intoxication.
