LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A teenager was taken to the hospital after being hit with a bat during a home invasion Thursday morning.
Police say four people were home during the burglary in the 500-block of Anniston Drive.
Investigators say three suspects – two males and a female – entered the home through the back door.
A couple living there told ABC 36 everyone was asleep when they came into the home at around 3 a.m.
The suspects restrained the couple and a female guest with tape and began rummaging through the home. They then went into the bedroom of an 18-year-old man, who is the grandson of the couple, and demanded cash.
Police say the teenager refused and there was a struggle. The suspects hit the teen several times with a bat, according to police.
He was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The couple told ABC 36 the suspects left the home with nothing.
Judy Horne, the grandmother of the teen, says she’s not sure why their home was targeted.
“We were all asleep and amazed like what’s going on here”, said Horne. “I got on to the floor like they asked and I just started praying asking and pleading with Jesus to help us”.
According to Horne, the suspects wore all black and had masks on their faces.
Police say the bat and other weapons were left in the home by the burglars.
Police are still searching for them.
