Berea woman sentenced in child abuse case

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Berea woman who was indicted on multiple charges of criminal abuse of a child will spend 70 years in prison, after being sentenced Thursday.

36-year old Linda Richmond, along with her husband, 39-year-old Julio Valladares (no mugshot available,) were arrested back in 2014 after police say they abused a child by limiting its access to food.  The two were arrested after the child had to be taken to the hospital.  Officers say the couple was withholding food as a punishment for bed wetting.

According to the Richmond Register, an indictment of the couple says the two also beat the child with a leather belt, forced the child to stand in a cold shower for up to 20 minutes at a time, and engaged in “repeated mental abuse and torture of the minor.”

Both Richmond and Valladares have remained in the Madison County Detention Center since, Oct. 18, according to online jail records.

On May 16th Valladares was sentenced to 20 years in connection to the case.
