SPRINGFIELD, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky State Police are investigating the shooting death of 51-year-old Yul A. Rayford, of Bardstown.
Troopers say the Washington Co. Sheriff contacted them around 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday about finding Rayford in a vehicle with a gunshot wound.
Investigators say a landowner on Bloomfield Road in Springfield found Rayford, who was still alive at the time. Rayford was airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital, where he died at around 10:20 a.m., according to troopers. Officers say Rayford had last been seen by a family member at his home in Bardstown at around 7:00 a.m.
Police say an autopsy was performed Wednesday at the State Medical Examiner’s Office, and that the autopsy report indicated that Rayford died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
Troopers say no weapon was found at the scene.
