LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Students at South Laurel High School learned a lesson on Thursday that the Laurel Co. Sheriff hopes they won’t soon forget.
The Sheriff’s Office conducted a mock DUI traffic crash at the school, complete with ambulance crews, and police re-enacting the investigation.

The Sheriff says the mock crash re-enactment sends a strong message about the dangers of impaired driving, especially as prom approaches.
“A visual display sometimes works a lot better than a lecture,” Sheriff Root said about the simulation. “Seeing all that stuff can be very powerful.”
Along with the rescue attempt, officers conducted an investigation with the mock drunk driver and performed several alcohol tests, ending with a DUI arrest.

Afterwards, students returned to the school’s auditorium where a mock trial and sentencing was conducted.
