FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Franklin Co. Sheriff, along with several surrounding counties, are investigating what appears to be a professional theft ring.
According to the Sheriff, a string of recent thefts have significant similarities. The Sheriff says suspects will break into cars at schools and take checks and ID’s of teachers. Then, a woman involved in the ring reportedly uses wigs to match the hairstyles on the ID’s and cash the checks.
Investigators were told this week that one bank has lost almost $12,000 dollars in the thefts.
The woman cashing the checks was driving a late model Buick sedan with stolen Oklahoma plates.
