LONDON, Ky. – A U.S. District Judge has sentenced a Knott Co. man to 320 months in federal prison for unlawfully possessing firearms.
50-year-old Roy Dean Pratt’s sentence was enhanced because his criminal history classified him as an “armed career criminal,” meaning that he had been previously convicted of three or more violent felonies or serious drug offenses. Under federal law, Pratt must serve at least 85 percent of his prison sentence.
A jury convicted Pratt in December of 2015, after Kentucky State Police say the found numerous firearms while searching Pratt’s home in April 2015. Pratt’s prior felony convictions prohibited from possessing the firearms.
Investigators say Pratt’s criminal record dates back to 1995.
